Introduction

The Watershed Assessment and Management Section oversees the health of the state's surface water resources and takes actions to protect and improve water quality for aquatic life and human use. \r\n\r\n\r\nClick here for more information about The Division of Watershed Stewardship.\r\n

Summary Statement

Primary responsibilities include conducting stream habitat assessments and biological assessments involving the collection and identification of benthic macroinvertebrates; performing freshwater mussel surveys; and collecting, managing, analyzing, and interpreting water quality data. The position also assists with the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of aquatic habitat restoration projects and related field activities. The position works collaboratively with program staff, other agencies, stakeholders, and project partners to support the assessment, protection, and restoration of Delaware's aquatic resources.\t\r\n

Essential Functions

Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations. \r\n \r\n Performs statistical analysis of data.\r\n \r\n Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.\r\n \r\n Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.\r\n \r\n Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals. \r\n\r\n

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III \r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Possession of a Bachelors degree or higherin Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field. \r\n Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.\r\n Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. \r\n Two years' experience in technical report writing.\r\n\r\n
