Job description

Overview
VTG is looking for a Data Scientist in Chantilly, VA. (Note: Contingent upon program award).
Data Scientist I supports government and program teams by assisting with data analysis, visualization, and reporting to inform mission, operational, and business decisions under senior supervision.
Data Scientist II independently performs data analysis and modeling to support mission outcomes, providing actionable insights to government and program leadership.
Data Scientist III independently performs data analysis and modeling to support mission outcomes, providing actionable insights to government and program leadership.
What will you do?
Data Scientist I
  • Support collection, cleaning, and preparation of structured and semi-structured data
  • Assist with exploratory data analysis and basic statistical assessments
  • Develop simple dashboards, visualizations, and analytical summaries
  • Support documentation of data sources, assumptions, and methodologies
  • Participate in analytic working groups and technical discussions
  • Assist with maintaining data pipelines, scripts, and analysis artifacts
  • Support coordination between data engineers, analysts, and mission stakeholders

Data Scientist II
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights
  • Develop and apply statistical models or machine learning techniques as appropriate
  • Design and maintain dashboards, visualizations, and analytic products
  • Translate mission or business questions into analytic approaches and outputs
  • Validate data quality, assumptions, and model results
  • Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support integration of analytics into operational or decision-support workflows

Data Scientist III
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights
  • Develop and apply statistical models or machine learning techniques as appropriate

  • Basic understanding of statistics and data visualization
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting federal, DoD, or IC programs, Exposure to mission, operational, or enterprise data sets, Familiarity with tools such as Jupyter, Tableau, Power BI, or similar

Data Scientist II
  • 5-9 years of experience in data analytics or data science roles
  • Strong proficiency with Python or R and SQL
  • Experience with statistical analysis, modeling, or machine learning techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting IC, DoD, or DOJ mission programs, Experience working with operational, intelligence, or enterprise data, Familiarity with cloud-based analytics environments, Experience with Agile delivery environments

Data Scientist III
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics or data science roles

Pay Range: VTG's estimated starting pay range is $105,000 - $215,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
