YOUR ROLE:

As a Summer College Intern in our Environmental, Health & Safety department in Annapolis Junction, MD or Leesburg, VA office, you will directly play an integral role in the success of our organization and the early development of your professional career. As part of this team, you will work in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of projects.

Some key responsibilities will likely include field observation and data collection, sampling and testing of soil, groundwater, and soil gas, as well as creation of site figures, data tables, and reports. Projects you will support may include (but are not limited to) Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Subsurface Investigations, site characterization and remediation tasks, and construction oversight. Your specific experience may also include soil classification, well installation and gauging, determination of groundwater flow characteristics, and evaluation of hazardous building materials. You will gain new perspectives on how environmental consultants and engineers support commercial real estate, site development projects, and the environmental compliance process.

REQUIREMENTS:

ยท Commitment to work at least 10 weeks during the summer months. The weeks do not have to be contiguous.

ยท Reliable vehicle for travel to local project sites, valid driver's license, insurance, and satisfactory driving record.

ยท must meet all pre-employment hiring requirements.

ยท Effective verbal and written communication skills.

ยท Geology and Environmental Science students highly desirable but other Earth/Natural Sciences and Engineering disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
