Job description

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

What began as a one-man environmental engineering consulting firm in 1986 has purposefully grown into a leading design services-firm. Watts is now an architecture and engineering (A/E) firm excelling in architecture, civil, environmental, transportation, and construction monitoring services with offices in Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester and New York City. As an interdisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and community builders, we work hand in hand with our clients to realize enduring designs — to create space for what matters.

We have an immediate opening for a full-time Environmental Compliance Monitor in the Syracuse region. Watts clients typically include various state agencies (NYSDOT, NYSTA, SUCF, DASNY, NYSDEC, OGS, NYCDEP), local governments, and authorities (NYPA, PANYNJ, MTA, etc.) across New York but with an upstate New York focus. Individual projects may include bridge, trail, highway, aviation, building, planning, and institutional redevelopment and expansion projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

In the role of Environmental Compliance Monitor, we'll count on you to Work on a wide variety of environmental monitoring, measurement, compliance and natural resources projects as they relate to air and noise, vibration, contaminated materials and remediation, water resources, transportation and development projects

  • Work under the supervision of mid-level and senior environmental scientist and engineers
  • Take responsibility for assisting with field monitoring and measurements, coordination and confirmation of the execution of work with regards to environmental permits, environmental documentation, biological assessments, and other environmental compliance documentation.
  • Assist senior and mid-level scientists in field work associated with the collection of environmental data.
  • Monitor and document environmental compliance at construction sites

The ideal person will have a multi-disciplinary background and have between 0-5 years of experience. Employee must be equally comfortable in the field and writing reports and conducting analyses. Work with a variety of environmental monitoring instrumentation will be required. Employee should welcome a fast based work environment, dealing with multiple contractors, be independent and have good problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or closely related field

- Knowledge of environmental rules and regulation, field investigation techniques, and agency coordination requirements

- Excellent writing and communication skills

- MS Office experience

Driving is required. Must have a clean driving record and a reliable vehicle. Some of work will be performed evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Salary

  • $55,000 to $70,000 based upon experience
