Project Engineer / Environmental Compliance Professional – Birmingham, AL (preferred)

Will consider other TTL Alabama Office and potential for remote/hybrid opportunity within the state of Alabama.

TTL is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Professional/Engineer with 8+ years of demonstrated experience supporting environmental permitting and regulatory compliance projects within industry and/or in a previous consulting role. This role will focus heavily on air and water environmental permitting, including PSD and Title V regulatory programs and NPDES permitting and compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, independent, and comfortable working with regulatory agencies, clients, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support air permitting projects, including Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), Title V, and State Implementation Plan permits
  • Understand and interpret project-specific regulatory applicability and compliance with federal, state, and local air quality regulations (including NSPS, NESHAP, and other CAA components)
  • Prepare, review, and submit NPDES permit applications, renewals, and modifications
  • Oversee NPDES compliance activities, including monitoring, reporting, and recordkeeping
  • Interpret environmental regulations and communicate requirements clearly to clients (both manager and technician level personnel at regulated facilities )
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during permitting, inspections, and audits
  • Develop and implement compliance strategies, procedures, and best management practices for a variety of industrial settings
  • Support environmental reporting, inspections, and internal audits as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supporting environmental permitting and compliance
  • Demonstrated experience with air permitting, including PSD and Title V programs
  • Demonstrated experience with NPDES permitting and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with industrial facilities and manufacturing processes
  • Experience interacting directly with regulatory agencies
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PE, CHMM, REM) are a plus
  • Experience with RCRA/EPCRA/TSCA compliance and/or industrial hygiene is a plus
