Job description

The Environmental Compliance Assistant supports the Environmental Compliance Manager in maintaining environmental and regulatory compliance for petroleum fueling facilities and convenience store customers.
This position plays an important role in keeping compliance records organized, accurate, and audit-ready while coordinating inspections, testing, permits, reporting deadlines, and other regulatory requirements. The Environmental Compliance Assistant will work closely with customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal departments to help ensure compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
This is a great opportunity for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys managing multiple priorities and is interested in developing their knowledge of environmental compliance and the petroleum industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
โ€ข Maintain accurate environmental compliance records and regulatory documentation.
โ€ข Track inspections, testing schedules, permits, renewals, certifications, and reporting deadlines.
โ€ข Prepare and organize documentation for Georgia EPD inspections, audits, and customer compliance reviews.
โ€ข Coordinate with customers, vendors, testing companies, internal departments, and regulatory agencies regarding compliance-related matters.
โ€ข Maintain monthly environmental inspection records, ATG reports, alarm histories, and corrective action documentation.
โ€ข Communicate environmental repair and maintenance requirements to the Service Department and follow up to ensure timely completion.
โ€ข Assist with UST permits, pump registrations, EPD filings, and required compliance certifications.
โ€ข Generate compliance reports, open-item logs, and customer status updates.
โ€ข Monitor outstanding compliance items and proactively follow up with the appropriate parties.
โ€ข Support the continuous improvement of environmental compliance processes, documentation, and record-retention systems.
โ€ข Perform additional compliance and administrative duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required.
โ€ข Associate degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
โ€ข Two years of administrative, environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory, or related experience preferred.
โ€ข Experience working in a deadline-driven administrative or compliance environment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
โ€ข Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills.
โ€ข Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines accurately and efficiently.
โ€ข Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
โ€ข Ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal departments.
โ€ข Knowledge of document management and record-retention practices.
โ€ข Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and follow up on outstanding compliance items.
โ€ข Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
โ€ข Willingness to learn environmental regulations, petroleum industry requirements, and compliance processes.
Preferred Industry Knowledge
Experience or familiarity with the following is preferred but not required:
โ€ข Underground Storage Tank (UST) compliance.
โ€ข Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) regulations and reporting requirements.
โ€ข Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) monitoring systems and environmental testing programs.
โ€ข Petroleum equipment and fueling facility operations.
โ€ข Environmental permitting, inspections, and regulatory documentation.
