What is an environmental architect?

An Environmental Architect is a professional who designs buildings and spaces with a focus on minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainability. They integrate eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, and green building practices into their designs. Environmental Architects work to ensure that structures are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible. Their goal is to create healthier living and working environments while conserving resources and reducing carbon footprints.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an environmental architect?

To thrive as an Environmental Architect, you need a strong background in sustainable design, building science, and architecture, typically supported by a professional degree and relevant licensure. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling tools, as well as certifications such as LEED accreditation, is essential. Creativity, project management, and collaborative communication are vital soft skills for integrating environmental solutions and leading multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure the creation of innovative, eco-friendly structures that meet regulatory standards and address environmental challenges.

What are some common challenges environmental architects face when integrating sustainable solutions into building projects?

Environmental Architects often encounter challenges such as balancing client expectations with environmental goals, navigating regulatory requirements, and sourcing sustainable materials within budget constraints. Collaborating with engineers and contractors to ensure green solutions are feasible and cost-effective can also be complex. However, these challenges are typically addressed through early stakeholder engagement, thorough research, and creative problem-solving, which are integral to successful and impactful project outcomes.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP Solution Architect to provide enterprise-level architecture and technical leadership for a large-scale SAP transformation and implementation program. This role will define the overall SAP solution architecture, ensure alignment across functional and technical workstreams, and guide integrations between SAP and the broader enterprise application landscape.

The SAP Solution Architect will partner closely with business leaders, SAP functional teams, technical teams, enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, and implementation partners to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, integrated, and aligned with long-term business and technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the overall SAP solution architecture across business processes, applications, integrations, data, security, and infrastructure.

  • Provide architectural leadership for SAP S/4HANA implementations, migrations, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.

  • Translate business requirements and strategic objectives into scalable SAP architecture and solution designs.

  • Establish architectural standards, principles, design patterns, and technical guardrails for the SAP program.

  • Lead solution-design sessions and architecture reviews across SAP functional and technical workstreams.

  • Ensure effective integration between SAP and non-SAP enterprise applications, including cloud platforms, legacy systems, third-party applications, and data environments.

  • Evaluate integration approaches involving APIs, middleware, interfaces, events, and batch processing.

  • Partner with functional leads to ensure SAP module designs support end-to-end business processes and enterprise architecture standards.

  • Provide oversight of SAP data architecture, master data, migration, reporting, and integration requirements.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and IAM teams to incorporate security, roles, access controls, compliance, and segregation-of-duties requirements into solution designs.

  • Identify architectural risks, dependencies, technical debt, and integration challenges and drive appropriate resolution.

  • Review solution designs and technical deliverables produced by implementation partners and consulting firms.

  • Ensure architectural decisions consider scalability, performance, resiliency, maintainability, and long-term support.

  • Support testing, cutover planning, deployment, go-live readiness, and post-production stabilization from an architecture perspective.

  • Maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, decision records, roadmaps, and future-state designs.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts and architecture decisions effectively to technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of SAP technology experience, with significant experience in SAP architecture or enterprise solution design.

  • Proven experience serving as an SAP Solution Architect, SAP Enterprise Architect, or Lead SAP Architect on large-scale enterprise implementations.

  • Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA architecture, implementation, migration, or modernization.

  • Broad understanding of SAP functional and technical architecture and how SAP capabilities integrate across enterprise business processes.

  • Extensive experience designing SAP and non-SAP integrations within complex enterprise environments.

  • Strong understanding of APIs, middleware, data integration, interfaces, cloud technologies, and enterprise integration patterns.

  • Experience evaluating technical designs and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across functional, technical, infrastructure, security, data, and business teams.

  • Experience providing architectural oversight to large consulting firms and systems-integration partners.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, documentation, and executive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the utility or energy industry and familiarity with complex regulated enterprise environments.

  • Architecture experience involving SAP platforms such as S/4HANA, ECC, SAP BTP, SuccessFactors, Ariba, EAM/Asset Management, or related SAP solutions.

  • Experience with SAP integration technologies and modern API/integration architectures.

  • Understanding of SAP security, IAM, GRC, roles, and segregation-of-duties considerations.

  • Experience with cloud and hybrid architectures involving Azure, AWS, or other enterprise cloud platforms.

  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and architecture-governance processes.

  • SAP architecture, TOGAF, cloud, or related professional certifications preferred.
