Job description

The Underwriting Assistant I provides entry level administrative and technical support to the underwriting team. This position helps process new business, renewals, and policy changes for liability insurance accounts. The role reviews submissions for completeness, enters accurate information into company systems, organizes account files, and follows up for missing information. The Underwriting Assistant I works closely with underwriters, agents, brokers, and other team members to support timely and accurate service.Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, log, and process new business, renewal, and policy change requests.
  • Review applications and supporting documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Enter and maintain account information in underwriting systems and electronic files.
  • Request missing information from agents, brokers, or internal team members.
  • Prepare account documents and reports for review by an underwriter.
  • Support accounts that may include auto liability, general liability, medical professional liability, liquor liability, restaurant general liability, and large fleet long haul trucking.
  • Track open items and deadlines to help keep work moving on time.
  • Respond to routine questions and provide clear status updates.
  • Follow company procedures, underwriting guidelines, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Complete other duties and team projects as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior office, customer service, data entry, or insurance experience is helpful.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic filing systems.
  • Ability to learn insurance products, company procedures, and underwriting systems.
