Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a HR Risk & Compliance Specialist to join our team! This position will provide operational and administrative support for Human
Resources risk management, compliance, governance, investigations, and audit activities. This role assists with compliance monitoring, audit coordination, investigation administration, policy governance, corrective action tracking, risk reporting, and process improvement initiatives.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Assist with HR risk assessments, risk action plans, and control documentation.
  • Coordinate internal and external HR audit requests and supporting evidence.
  • Conduct routine audits of HR files, processes, and records.
  • Assist in maintaining investigation logs, files, metrics, timelines, and documentation.
  • Support investigation administration and confidential case tracking.
  • Track corrective actions resulting from audits, investigations, and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with policy, handbook, and procedure reviews and updates.
  • Prepare HR risk, compliance, investigation, and audit reporting.
  • Support business continuity and governance activities within HR.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to leave of absence function.
  • Serve as primary back-up for the HR Shared Services Associate role and support MyHR operations as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience with one (1) year of experience in a Human Resources role.

The following would be a plus:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • HR training or certifications.
  • Experience working with audit preparations.
  • HRIS experience.
  • Experience supporting investigations, compliance, or risk-related activities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
