Responsibilities
  • Measure, cut and fit glass to precise dimensions
  • Install glass into frames, sashes, curtain walls or storefront systems
  • Apply sealants, gaskets, and weatherproofing materials
  • Remove and replace broken or damaged glass safely
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specs
  • Operate equipment like glass lifts, suction cups, and cutting tools
  • Ensure safety compliance (especially working at heights or with large panels)

Qualifications
Experience with:
  • Storefront systems (Kawneer, YKK, Oldcastle, etc.)
  • Curtain wall installation
  • IG units (insulated glass)
  • Tempered and laminated glass handling

Ability to:
  • Read blueprints and shop drawings
  • Measure accurately (critical mistakes are expensive)
  • Cut and edge glass (for shop roles)

Entry-Level Glazier
  • Assists installers
  • Uses basic tools
  • Learns measuring and safety practices

Journeyman Glazier
  • Independently installs storefront systems and windows
  • Installs commercial door hardware
  • Reads plans and layouts jobs
  • Troubleshoots installation issues in the field

Lead / Foreman
  • Manages crew
  • Coordinates with GC and superintendent
  • Handles layout, sequencing, and problem-solving

Tools & Equipment Knowledge
  • Glass cutters, grinders, drills
  • Suction cups / vacuum lifters
  • Boom lifts / scissor lifts (certifications often required)
  • Caulking and glazing tools
