Job description

Geo-Logic Associates (GLA) is a privately-held, multidisciplinary, geologic, geotechnical, hydrogeologic, civil, and environmental consulting firm. Our highly experienced professionals manage projects through 30 US office locations and an office in Peru. The firm was established in 1991 and has experienced sustained growth since then. Geo-Logic Associates is currently seeking an ambitious and skilled entry level Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join the team in our Bay Area (San Jose, CA) office.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Perform and develop scopes for field and office tasks (technical and non-technical) and independent analysis.
  • Safely conduct and/or oversee field exploration, sampling, inspection, analysis and technical support.
  • Coordinate tasks and various size projects with staff.
  • Contribute to reports and calculations on projects for review.

We are looking for someone with the ability to provide quality technical support on commercial, municipal, transportation, energy and water projects. Field Experience is preferred.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to learn in areas including:

  • Soil and rock classification,
  • Slope stability analysis,
  • Earth retention systems,
  • Laboratory soil test procedures
  • Shallow and deep foundation design,
  • Materials testing and engineering
  • Grading observation and testing
  • Monitoring well data collection
  • Soil improvement techniques, and
  • Pavement design.

Knowledge of soils, drilling and other field operations are preferred.

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of Geotechnical Engineering field experience (logging of borings, test pits, mapping, slope monitoring)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering/Geotechnical Engineering
  • Knowledge of drilling operations and civil project design
  • Geotechnical and materials testing and inspection experience
  • Must have a positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks
  • Laboratory soils testing knowledge
  • Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office, Including Word, Excel, and Power Point preferred
  • Drafting experience a plus (CADD, Adobe Illustrator, gINT, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical software and analysis programs a plus
  • Position will require the candidate to adhere to work assignments/schedules, be self-motivated, organized and have a keen sense of detail.
  • Candidate must be willing to work in addition to a standard 40-hour work week when needed, including out-of-town assignments, on occasion
  • California experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 40-hr Training
  • EIT

Candidate Must:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Posses a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to our insurer
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
