Humana is seeking a self-driven and collaborative Lead Software Engineer to join our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) team. In this role, you will deliver innovative IVR solutions and develop robust omnichannel APIs for our enterprise platforms. You will have the opportunity to drive the success of a high-impact, customer-facing application within a Fortune 50 company, working closely with multiple teams throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Lead Software Engineer -Omnichannel APIs

Humana is seeking a self-driven and collaborative Lead Software Engineer to join our Omnichannel API team. In this role, you will design, develop, secure, and enhance enterprise APIs that support high-impact, member facing, applications across Humana's digital and voice channels.

This role offers the opportunity to modernize and strengthen existing API capabilities while helping deliver resilient, scalable, and secure omnichannel solutions within a Fortune 50 organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Omnichannel APIs that support enterprise applications and customer-facing capabilities.
  • Enhance the security, resiliency, performance, and reliability of existing APIs through modernization, improved architecture, observability, testing, and operational controls.
  • Apply AI and AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate development, improve quality, automate testing, enhance documentation, and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Partner with architecture, security, cloud, product, engineering, and operations teams to deliver secure, resilient, and enterprise-aligned API solutions.
  • Collaborate with agile teams to plan, track, and deliver API enhancements, platform improvements, and cloud-based capabilities.
  • Develop proofs of concept, reusable patterns, reference implementations, and technical guidance to support adoption across teams.
  • Influence technical direction, delivery timelines, and solution strategy in partnership with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support API lifecycle management, including design reviews, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for critical production incidents to ensure rapid resolution and minimal business disruption.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise APIs.
  • Strong understanding of API security, resiliency patterns, authentication and authorization, observability, error handling, scalability, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with AI, generative AI, machine learning-enabled capabilities, intelligent automation, or AI-assisted software engineering practices.
  • Experience improving or modernizing existing APIs in production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with architecture, security, cloud, product, operations, and engineering teams.
  • Experience leading technical delivery, mentoring engineers, influencing stakeholders, and driving adoption of reusable engineering practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production support experience for enterprise applications or platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting omnichannel capabilities across web, mobile, contact center, partner, or enterprise platforms.
  • Experience with cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure as code, API gateways, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI principles, enterprise AI governance, and practical evaluation of AI-enabled solutions.
  • Experience with API testing and development tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture, data access patterns, identity and access management, and enterprise integration patterns.

Work-At-Home Requirements

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information
Work at Home Requirements To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
