What are entry perfusionists?

Entry perfusionists are healthcare professionals who operate heart-lung machines and other equipment during surgeries that require cardiopulmonary bypass, such as open-heart surgery. As entry-level clinicians, they typically work under the supervision of experienced perfusionists and surgeons, ensuring patients' blood and oxygen levels are maintained during procedures. They are responsible for setting up, monitoring, and adjusting the perfusion equipment, as well as responding to changes in the patient's condition. Entry perfusionists usually have recently completed an accredited perfusion education program and are in the early stages of their clinical careers.
