Job description

Thank you for your interest in the Entry Level Police Officer position with the City of Altoona's Police Department. Entry Level Police Officer Requirements:
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be 21 years of age on or before the date of employment
  • Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school or have a Graduate Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • Must be of high moral character and submit to a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) test
  • Must be physically and mentally fit for the full duties of a Police Officer
  • Must agree to psychological and physical examinations if offered employment

All applications must be completed and submitted with a copy of your valid driver's license, and applicable military documentation, to the Human Resources Department no later than Noon on Friday, September 25, 2026. All previous applicants will be required to reapply and repeat the application process in order to be considered for employment.
  • The Physical Agility test will take place at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 OR Saturday, October 10, 2026. Please refer to the MPOETC Physical Fitness Assessment Standards below.
  • The Written Exam will be administered the same day to applicants who successfully pass the Physical Agility test.

All applicants will receive notification of their Written Exam score and eligibility to participate in the Oral Interview. Applicants must meet the minimum qualification of 70% or greater on the Written Exam and Oral Interview to move forward. Oral Interviews are projected to take place the beginning of November 2026; with more information to follow.
