Job description

Entry-Level Industrial Controls Electrical Drafter

Location: Spartanburg, SC | Department: Panel Shop Division | Reports To: Director – Panel Shop Division | Type: Full-Time, On-site

A day in this role

Morning stand-up with the Panel Shop sets the tone: you review yesterday’s markups from senior engineers and translate them into precise electrical schematics. With AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN open, you refine panel layouts and wiring diagrams, double-checking that every PLC, HMI, sensor, relay, and power supply is correctly specified. Midday, you join a quick design review with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teammates—incorporating feedback and confirming compliance with UL 508A, NFPA 70, and IEC standards. In the afternoon, you step onto the shop floor to support panel assembly, test sequences, and hands-on troubleshooting. You wrap by updating the Bill of Materials so the team can build with confidence.

What you’ll contribute
  • Produce clear, accurate electrical control schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Create and maintain detailed drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar).
  • Identify and specify components including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays, and power supplies.
  • Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) with precision.
  • Partner with mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration.
  • Design to the standards that matter: UL 508A, NFPA 70, IEC, and related codes.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement revisions thoughtfully.
  • Assist during panel assembly, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Background that fits
  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related; an Associate’s with relevant experience is welcome.
  • Working familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Foundational knowledge of industrial control systems and components.
  • Detail-focused, analytical, and eager to solve problems.
  • Strong communicator and collaborative teammate.
  • Motivated to learn and grow in a hands-on engineering setting.
Preferred extras
  • Internship or co-op experience in controls or automation.
  • Exposure to PLC/HMI platforms and industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
  • Awareness of safety/regulatory considerations in control panel design.
