Job description

Nurse Position

The Nurse is responsible for providing direct healthcare services to students with specific medical needs during the school day. This role ensures the students' safety, access to education, and overall well-being by delivering individualized medical care in accordance with physician orders and district policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical care to designated students throughout the school day
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider
  • Monitor and document the students' health status and respond to medical needs as they arise
  • Implement and follow the students' Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP) and IEP.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and follow established emergency protocols
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines
  • Assist in training school staff on student-specific medical procedures as needed
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment that promotes student participation in school activities

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Iowa
  • CPR and First Aid certification (required)
  • Experience with Diabetic care and Seizure monitoring.
  • Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations

Working Conditions:

  • School-based setting following the academic calendar
  • May require mobility throughout the building and attendance on field trips or school events
  • Close, consistent supervision of a student with medical needs
