POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Engineering Support Specialist provides entry-level technical and administrative support to engineering teams. This role focuses on performing routine tasks such as data collection, documentation, test assistance, and maintaining engineering records under direct supervision. The Associate Engineering Support Specialist contributes to cross-functional projects by ensuring timely and accurate execution of foundational support activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - (depending on area of assignment)

  • Assist engineering staff with data collection, documentation, and basic technical tasks.
  • Perform routine testing, measurements, and observations under supervision.
  • Prepare standard reports and update documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by collecting baseline data.
  • Assisting in small-scale prototyping or sample builds for R&D teams.
  • Shadowing engineers during process trials or equipment installations.
  • Performing basic CAD edits (e.g., redlines or markups) under supervision.
  • Work under close supervision, with tasks assigned and monitored.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
  • Ability to work and interact well with others.

Manufacturing:
  • Assist in maintaining work instructions, production specs, and tooling documentation.
  • Monitor process deviations and report anomalies to engineers.
  • Help collect time and motion data for production analysis.

Industrial:
  • Gather operational data to support workflow and layout improvements.
  • Participate in ergonomic assessments with guidance.
  • Support lean activities such as 5S, waste identification, and basic mapping.

Product:
  • Assist with product test setup and routine validation support.
  • Maintain lab equipment and assist with test documentation.
  • Help prepare prototype builds and material handling.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supporting material requests, inventory updates, or kitting activities.
  • Participating in training sessions related to lean manufacturing or safety.
  • Assisting in scheduling or note-taking for engineering or improvement meetings.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate or technical degree in engineering, drafting, product design, operations, supply chain, or another related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in drafting or design support, manufacturing, product development, or equivalent experience, if degreed. Minimum of 4 years of experience in drafting or design support, manufacturing, product development, or equivalent experience, if non-degreed.
Required Skills:
  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Novice experience in engineering software and tools.
  • Basic project management and organizational skills.
  • Adept analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Technical documentation and drafting (CAD/Visio/Excel).
  • Clear communication across engineering and operations.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP/PLM systems and production data tools.

Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, quality, or other improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of work measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of internal data systems.

SPECIAL DEMANDS
  • Periodic travel including overnight stays. Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to navigate in a manufacturing environment, including navigating stairs.
