General Description
The University of Montevallo Department of Theatre and Music seeks a one-year Visiting Instructor of Musical Theatre Voice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in musical theatre repertoire, teaching applied voice lessons, and significant experience selecting appropriate audition material for BFA Musical Theatre Students. This is a one-year position, though we anticipate a search for a full-time Instructor/Assistant Professor Musical Theatre Voice position search to commence in the Fall. The successful candidate for this position would be eligible to apply for the full-time position.
Essential Job Duties
  • Teach applied voice lessons to BFA Musical Theatre students and other departmental students if slots are available
  • Participate in recruiting efforts for the department
  • Serve as Vocal Coach for departmental productions where needed
  • Assign musical theatre repertoire to BFA students
  • Help coordinate and participate in Falcon for a Day and Preview Day events

About the Department of Theatre and Music
Formerly the separate departments of Music and Theatre, the new Department of Theatre and Music combines two strong performing programs into a single department. Offering BFA, BM, BA, and BS degrees, the department serves both majors and non-major alike, encouraging participation in productions and ensembles from across campus. Primarily housed in two buildings on campus, the Department of Performing Arts produces over 100 events each year, including several mainstage theatre productions in the recently opened Alan and Lindsey Song Center for the Arts. The performing facilities include the 240-seat LeBaron Recital Hall, the 1200-seat Palmer Auditorium, the 300-seat DiscoverShelby Theatre, and the 100-seat Michael and Sue Meadows Black Box Theatre.
