Job description

Ardurra is seeking a Transportation/Highway Engineer I to join our West Palm Beach, FL office!

Ardurra’s Transportation team offers design capabilities ranging from complex multilevel interchanges to urban arterial reconstruction to complete streets for our clients. Our portfolio features a plethora of signature projects including the I-395 Signature Bridge reconstruction project in Downtown Miami. Each of our designs is customized, sustainable, and cost-effective for our clients covering all project types, including Design Build or Design Bid Build. Our clients have relied on our expertise in comprehensive planning, engineering design, and construction management to provide safe and efficient transportation solutions.

Primary Function:

Under general supervision, the Engineer I performs entry-level engineering assignments requiring the application of standard engineering principles, in a range of transportation-related design projects, developing contract plans, specifications, and estimates for construction The role supports project execution through design development, technical analysis, documentation, and field activities, while exercising independent judgment on routine engineering tasks and escalating complex issues appropriately. The candidate will perform engineering design tasks related to roadway geometric design, produce plans, and write technical reports and documents.

Primary Duties:

  • Prepares design details, calculations, material quantities, and cost estimates, using judgment to resolve routine issues.
  • Develops and updates design drawings and plan sheets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Assists in preparing technical specifications, design criteria, and project documentation.
  • Reviews vendor bids, shop drawings, and contractor submittals for compliance and identifies discrepancies.
  • Supports engineering studies, modeling tasks, and technical analyses, escalating non-routine issues as needed.
  • Prepares technical reports and sections of larger documents with clear summaries of methods and results.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Develops and assembles permit application packages, coordinating required documentation and ensuring compliance with regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Conducts field tests, measurements, site observations, and data collection to support design validation and project execution, interpreting results and identifying potential impacts on design.
  • Performs quality checks on design deliverables, verifying alignment with project specifications, internal standards, and client expectations.
  • Supports project teams by completing assigned tasks efficiently, coordinating with internal disciplines, and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
  • Assists proposal teams by providing technical input, preliminary design concepts, and data summaries to support pursuit strategies and proposal development.
  • Maintains organized project records, calculations, and supporting documentation to ensure traceability, accuracy, and readiness for review.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent
  • Experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment
