The Canrig Shop Electrician I supports inspection, cleaning, wiring, termination, component replacement, electrical assembly, and functional-check activities under approved procedures and appropriate guidance. The role helps build or restore equipment to approved quality and operational requirements, records assigned work, and builds proficiency in Canrig electrical repair practices. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 1-3 years of electrical assembly, industrial electrical maintenance, electrical equipment repair, or closely related experience. Relevant technical education, apprenticeship, or structured training may be considered.

• Foundational ability to use common hand tools and follow written or demonstrated electrical work instructions safely.

• Basic knowledge of industrial electrical components, wiring methods, motors, and control circuits, with the ability to develop Canrig product knowledge through training.

• Ability to read and follow basic work instructions, wiring diagrams, parts information, and approved repair procedures.

• Ability to use approved hand tools, termination tools, torque tools, and electrical test instruments safely and accurately within training and authorization.

• Ability to use required personal protective equipment. Respirator use, when required by the assigned task, is subject to applicable medical evaluation, fit testing, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION 
 

• Experience repairing electrical systems on Canrig or other OEM drilling equipment, including top drives, powered catwalks, drawworks, control consoles, motors, drives, or related assemblies.

• Experience using computerized work orders, maintenance systems, or electronic repair documentation.

Electrical Inspection, Repair, and Assembly

• Assist with inspection, cleaning, electrical disassembly, basic component replacement, wiring, termination, assembly, and preparation of equipment under approved instructions and guidance.

• Identify visible damage, loose or incorrect connections, missing parts, and basic electrical concerns; gather information and escalate troubleshooting or repair decisions beyond demonstrated competence.

• Use approved hand tools, crimping tools, torque tools, and electrical test equipment for assigned tasks after required training and authorization.

• Assist with point-to-point checks, continuity and resistance testing, and other approved de-energized electrical checks under guidance.

Electrical Testing and Functional Verification

• Review electrical equipment condition and identify damaged conductors, terminals, connectors, insulation, components, labels, or other nonconforming conditions.

• Use approved electrical test instruments and torque tools to verify connection integrity, component condition, and applicable acceptance criteria.

• Assist with approved electrical and functional checks, record results, and escalate exceptions for review.

• Follow defined inspection points, verification requirements, and escalation protocols.

Electrical Preventive Maintenance and Work Readiness

• Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance and routine service activities for assigned electrical equipment and shop test assets.

• Identify developing electrical issues and communicate repair needs, unsafe conditions, authorization limits, or work interruptions.

• Inspect assigned tools and test equipment before use and remove damaged or unserviceable items from operation.

• Organize work steps, materials, parts, and tools to support safe and efficient job progress.

Electrical Safety, Quality, and Technical Team Support

• Follow required electrical safety, environmental, quality, and shop procedures, including applicable lockout/tagout and authorization requirements.

• Participate in pre-job planning, hazard identification, and risk controls for assigned repair and testing activities.

• Maintain an orderly work area and handle equipment, tools, parts, and waste in accordance with applicable requirements.

• Seek guidance, participate in training, and apply feedback to build proficiency in assigned shop-electrician tasks.

• Coordinate with supervisors, quality personnel, materials teams, and other functions to resolve technical or workflow issues.
