WCBD TV is an NBC Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Inc. We are located in the beautiful Lowcountry area of Charleston, SC. Charleston is known for its warm weather, friendly people, charming downtown, outstanding food, beautiful beaches, and so much history.
The Engineer installs, tests, updates, repairs and maintains hardware and systems for both broadcasting and business operations. We are looking for an entry level Engineer with Broadcast and IT experience, or a combination of education and work related experience equivalent. Qualified candidates don't necessarily need experience in all categories, but must have experience that would translate into this role, and possess the aptitude to master all responsibilities in a timely manner.

  • Minimizes system/service interruptions due to equipment failure or other cause by rapidly identifying and addressing the cause of the interruption
  • Works closely with the Chief Engineer in installing, maintaining and documenting the IT network: workstations, servers, switches, wireless data and printers
  • Qualified candidates don't necessarily need experience in all categories, but must have experience that would translate into this role, and possess the aptitude to master all responsibilities in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned, be able to work extended hours as needed, including various shifts at times. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. and safely climb ladders.

Skills, Abilities & Qualifications
  • Degree in Information Technology or Broadcasting, or a combination of education and work-related experience equivalent
  • Minimum two years' experience with digital electronics in a television broadcasting environment
  • Experience evaluating, installing, maintaining and repairing broadcasting industry equipment (Audio, Video and AC power systems) and information technology systems
  • Experience with Network Administration, configuration and data security implementation with Cisco, H-P and Juniper hardware
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications and Operating Systems
  • Experience with the Adobe Suite of products for video and graphics production
  • Experience with Mac & iOS products
  • Experience with fiberoptic systems, audio and video routing and patching
  • Working experience with audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems; experience with Ross Production Equipment/Automation strongly desired
  • Experience with digital transmitters, microwave transmitters and receivers
  • Proficiency/troubleshooting experience with desktop, laptop and tablet computers
  • Detail oriented, with strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to handle multiple projects/issues simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to build rapport with end-users and vendors to efficiently address issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - fluency in English
  • Self-motivated and directed
