Position Purpose
 
The Saw Operator is responsible for correctly identifying, collecting, and issuing all materials as referenced on blueprints, as well as properly clocking hours to the job. This position requires knowledge of industrial saws, rolling, finishing, and lifting machinery. Expectations will include the ability to read measuring tapes, blueprints, and to maintain and ensure quality parts. Problem identification and troubleshooting are important aspects of this job. For interested and qualified individuals, this role could be an introduction to CNC router operation positions.
 
 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams with limited assistance from others.
  • Identify material and tooling requirements.
  • Set up and operate a variety of industrial saws.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure accurate material cutting.
  • Manufacture parts to documented desired tolerances.
  • Handle inbound and outbound logistic requirements.
  • Monitor machines and make appropriate adjustments for speed control, feed rates, blade tensions, etc. to boost production quality.
  • Utilize ERP for tracking purposes.
  • Conduct quality check at assignment completion. Report any concerns to management.
  • Delivered finished parts to designated areas.
  • Monitor tools for breakage and tool wear symptoms.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment and conduct basic troubleshooting to keep machinery functioning properly.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process and the materials produced in department to support process.
  • Learn entry-level skill of set of CNC router operation as appropriate/needed.
  • Learn and develop crane related skills.
  • Learn and develop bending and rolling machine skills
  • Perform tasks to company standards to efficiently and effectively meet department goals.
  • Take initiative to improve methodology and find solutions to boost productivity.
  • Communicate with management.
  • Manage priorities as they change throughout a shift. Complete allocated work in a timely manner.
  • Keep a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including tools and equipment.
  • Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required. 
  • Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school graduate, or 1 year of manufacturing saw experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • If no industrial saw experience, willing to train the right individual.
  • Crane related knowledge and skills, if don’t currently possess, must be willing to learn.
  • Bending and rolling machine knowledge and skills, if don’t currently possess, must be willing to learn.
  • Willing to learn entry-level CNC router operation.
  • Math proficiency.
  • Ability to read basic blueprints and diagrams.
  • Knowledge and experience using measuring instruments, such as tape measure and calipers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), a plus.
  • Knowledge of Epicor, Slack, and/or Box, a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently, and as a member of a small team.  
  • Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility with work schedule. Normal work schedule is forty hours per week; however operational demands may necessitate other schedules to meet business needs.

  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
