Certified Surgical Technologist

Compensation: $24 to $36 depending on years of experience



Position Overview

The Certified Surgical Technologist works alongside surgeons and registered nurses to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures. This role is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, preparing instruments and supplies, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team to support optimal patient outcomes. The technologist applies knowledge of anatomy, sterile technique, and surgical procedures to facilitate high-quality care in the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies
  • Assist the surgical team by anticipating surgeon needs and passing instruments during procedures
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic and sterile technique at all times
  • Ensure proper function and availability of surgical equipment before and during procedures
  • Support patient safety by monitoring sterile field integrity and equipment usage
  • Assist with cleaning and restocking operating rooms and sterile core areas after cases
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other team members in high-pressure situations

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist or Operating Room Technician program
  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology preferred
  • Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (required; or must obtain within 6 months of hire if hired after Jan. 1, 2016)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 6 weeks of hire)
  • Entry-level applicants welcome; prior OR experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to remain focused under pressure
