Job description

Accounting Assistant is an entry-level position within the Accounting Series. Under direction of the Senior Accountant, the Accounting Assistant performs routine clerical accounting duties related to the preparation, processing, and maintenance of statistical and financial records in accordance with (SJRRC) established procedures and governmental accounting standards and regulations. The position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting and entry level reconciliations.As experience is gained more complex and varied tasks will be assigned. Supervision and frequent review of work will lessen as incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the second level, although they are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. SJRRC seeks to employ persons whose backgrounds and abilities enhance the diversity of the demographics of the community it serves. The selection process is based on merit, and shall extend to all candidates a fair, impartial examination of qualifications based on job-related criteria.  Applicants best matching the requirements of the position will be invited for an initial interview and may be asked to return for additional interviews as warranted. CONDITIONAL JOB OFFERS - All offers of employment are conditional and are subject to successful completion of a medical drug screen and/or physical, and background report. MEDICAL-DRUG SCREENING - All positions may be subject to a physical or drug screen, prior to appointment, issued by a qualified medical physician assigned by SJRRC.
