Job description

Position Summary
The Parish Catechetical Leader (PCL) serves under the direct supervision of the Pastor and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Diocese of Beaumont. The PCL is responsible for coordinating, developing, and overseeing the parish religious education and faith formation programs for children in Pre-K through eighth grade, ensuring alignment with the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
The Parish Catechetical Leader supports the spiritual formation of the parish youth and collaborates with parish leadership, staff, catechists, volunteers, and families to foster a strong foundation of faith.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement parish catechetical and faith formation programs consistent with diocesan guidelines
  • Collaborate with the Pastor to assess and address the catechetical needs of the parish
  • Direct sacramental preparation programs and ongoing faith formation initiatives
  • Select, implement, and evaluate catechetical curriculum
  • Recruit, train, support, and affirm catechists and volunteers
  • Maintain accurate records of catechetical programs, sacramental preparation, and required certifications
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, parish staff, and parishioners
  • Coordinate with the Business Administrator to ensure all catechists and volunteers meet Safe Environment requirements
  • Prepare and manage the annual catechetical department budget
  • Provide general administrative and recordkeeping support related to parish religious education
  • Work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers
  • Fulfill evening and weekend responsibilities as required

Qualifications
  • Fully initiated, active Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church
  • Ability to faithfully represent the teachings and mission of the Church
  • Working knowledge of diocesan policies, procedures, and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, youth, and families
  • Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related educational field
  • Previous experience in parish catechesis or faith formation leadership

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs during the course of duties

Work Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • Evening and weekend work required based on programming and parish needs

Compensation
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications
