Job description

The QA/QC Technician provides quantitative analysis of all beer produced at the brewery. This includes the monitoring and assessment of beer and processes from raw materials to finished goods. Assisting with the execution of Great Frontier Beverages (GFB)/Ninkasi’s quality assurance and control program. This includes but is not limited to, microbiological testing and investigations, packaging testing, analysis of in-process beer and finished beer,  and preparing, executing, and reporting of results for routine sensory panel testing. This position can be part time or full time, but is expected to work weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to GFB/Ninkasi’s safety policies and procedures at all times.

• Conduct and provide analysis of raw materials as requested.

• Coordinate and assist in the set-up of quality assurance programs throughout brewery.

• Assist with yeast management and propagations.

• Assist with Dissolved Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and Total Package Oxygen analysis

• Perform micro sampling, media production, and plate processing.
• Perform routine analytical tests (ABV, Color, BUs)

• Assist with setup and implementation of Sensory Panel.

• Enter analytical, sensory and micro data and document results of analysis in appropriate form(s), log(s) and/or database(s).

• Provide requested reports and analysis as needed.

• Ensure packaging samples for beer retain library are collected, delivered and organized

• Offer education to fellow employees of lab practices during New Hire Orientation and as needed.

• Take appropriate action following decision trees and alert necessary staff of results, especially when analysis indicates an issue or concern with the product or process.

• Assist with product quarantine and release

• Ensure that equipment is maintained and used properly according to safety procedures at all times.

• Maintain cleanliness of all laboratory areas.

• Practice proper chemical, physical, microbiological, and sensory testing procedures.

• Perform others duties as assigned, which may include providing assistance to other departments in need.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. 4-year degree in Chemistry, Fermentation Sciences, Biology or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 1-3 years in a similar or related field.
  • Computer skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite and sensory application software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven performance in a self-managed work environment
  • Previous experience with Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license
