Job description

The Opportunity

Cordova is seeking a proactive Software Engineer to join our clientโ€™s development team, focusing on the design and maintenance of high-quality software that serves both internal employees and external customers. This role is ideal for a developer who excels at both building custom features from scratch and configuring/customizing vendor-provided packaged software to meet specific user needs.

You will act as a key contributor to the digital ecosystem, ensuring that the code you write directly supports broader business objectives. We are looking for an individual with a growth mindsetโ€”someone who is as comfortable diving into a complex codebase as they are learning a new technology or framework to solve a business problem.

Key Responsibilities

Feature Development & Systems Configuration

  • Engineering: Design and develop new software capabilities and features across the enterprise stack.

  • Vendor Integration: Configure and customize vendor-provided software packages to align with unique business workflows and user requirements.

  • API Construction: Build and maintain robust APIs for both internal and external product integrations.

  • Quality Assurance: Identify, isolate, and document defects with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Agile Execution & Operations

  • Agile Delivery: Participate in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies and planning tools like Azure DevOps.

  • DevOps Alignment: Apply DevOps and CI/CD principles to ensure stable, repeatable deployments and high-quality code releases.

  • Problem Solving: Use independent judgment to handle moderately complex technical issues, referring only the most unusual cases to senior leadership.

Communication & Strategy

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Translate complex technical information into condensed, actionable updates for various stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.

  • Business Analysis: Analyze company business needs and procedures to ensure technical solutions drive measurable business value.

  • Research: Evaluate technical alternatives and reach decisions that balance short-term fixes with long-term architectural health.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience & Education

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • Tenure: * Entry-Level: 0โ€“2 years of software engineering experience.

    • Mid-Level: 2โ€“7 years of software engineering experience.

  • Technical Depth: Strong proficiency in one or more core coding languages (e.g., C#, .NET, or Java).

Core Competencies

  • Database Knowledge: Basic understanding of database management systems (SQL and NoSQL).

  • Analytical Skills: Excellent logic and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying system issues.

  • Insurance Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with Property & Casualty (P&C) rating, policy coverages, and endorsements is highly desirable.

  • Interpersonal Skills: A team player who responds well to feedback and can maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive data.
