Position: Project Engineer (Self-Perform/Automotive)

POSITION SUMMARY

Barton Malow is seeking a Self-Perform Project Engineer (Automotive) to join our Building Trades team in Spring Hill, TN. This entry-level role supports Barton Malow's self-perform operations by providing technical assistance, managing project documentation, and contributing to field execution. The position offers hands-on learning, collaboration with field teams, and exposure to core construction practices across automotive, renewable energy, and industrial projects. Travel to project sites is expected.

 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Field Engineering
    • Observe and walk project sites to capture safety observations, progress photos, and identify potential issues.
    • Assist the superintendent with daily execution of self-perform work.
    • Gain exposure to field crews and functional managers to understand construction sequencing, material placement, and field workflows.
    • Support QA/QC activities, quantity take-offs, and site logistics planning using digital platforms.
  • Document Control & Project Support
    • Prepare, track, and distribute RFIs, submittals, and other project correspondence.
    • Record daily quantities and facilitate weekly productivity reviews.
    • Manage tracking logs for purchased materials and rented equipment.
    • Attend and document project meetings, including recording minutes and action items.
    • Maintain drawings, specifications, and project closeout documentation.
    • Facilitate installation work packages and coordinate with field teams on execution plans.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Enforce Barton Malow corporate safety policies and site-specific safety requirements.
    • Support proactive identification and mitigation of potential safety risks in the field.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years' of relevant construction experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and client service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction software platforms.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a dynamic, field-based environment.
  • Proactive attitude with a strong commitment to safety and quality.
