Job description

Hallberg Engineering provides engineering and consulting services to public and private clients across Minnesota from our two offices in Duluth and White Bear Lake. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our growing team.

This is a developmental role designed for early-career engineers. You will apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience in designing electrical systems for commercial buildings. You will work closely with experienced engineers and designers to deliver high-quality, innovative, and value-driven solutions for our clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will support a variety of technical and design tasks, including:

  • Assist in the design of electrical systems for commercial buildings, including:

  • Power distribution systems

  • Lighting layouts

  • Fire alarm systems

  • Equipment sizing and selection

  • Prepare and modify electrical design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit

  • Develop construction documents, specifications, and technical reports

  • Perform engineering calculations, energy analyses, and technical evaluations

  • Research commercially available equipment and recommend appropriate selections

  • Review existing drawings and field conditions to identify installed systems and equipment

  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (MEP, architectural, structural, civil) and external vendors

  • Assist with building surveys and site visits as needed

  • Provide construction administration support throughout project phases

  • Input and analyze data using engineering software tools

  • Participate in internal training, professional development, and industry organizations

  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project success​

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience (internship experience considered)

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain preferred

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit preferred

  • Basic understanding of electrical design principles and applicable codes (NEC, etc.)

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment in accordance with company policy following training period

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Learn from experienced engineers through mentorship and peer collaboration

  • Participate in training programs, seminars, and professional organizations

  • Gain exposure to all phases of project development, from design through construction

REPORTING & COLLABORATION:

  • Reports to Project Engineers and/or Senior Designers for daily guidance

  • Works closely with internal team members and external vendors

  • Limited direct client interaction initially, with growth opportunities over time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates primarily in an office environment with occasional site visits. The work environment is typically moderate in noise level. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for extended periods

  • Ability to move between workspaces and visit project sites
