Their responsibilities often include learning new technologies, collaborating with team members, and gaining practical experience to advance in their careers.

What does an entry level software developer do?

An entry-level software developer has simpler duties compared to more senior members of the field. At the entry level, your responsibilities are to create simple, single-thread code to achieve a specific task. These bits of code can be combined to create a larger program. You may also have to create or write a design algorithm by which you create software. However, most of the time, as an entry-level developer, you are in charge of debugging. You have to comb through the code of a piece of software to remove errors.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as an entry level software developer?

As an entry level software developer, you will typically be assigned to work on smaller modules or features within larger projects, often under the guidance of more experienced developers. Your daily tasks may include writing and testing code, fixing bugs, participating in code reviews, and collaborating with team members through agile sprints or regular meetings. You'll also have opportunities to learn new technologies, contribute to documentation, and gradually take on more complex responsibilities as you gain experience. This environment encourages continuous learning and close collaboration with others, helping you build both technical and teamwork skills.

Job description

For this position, we are looking for a full stack backend engineer, who will be working directly with the developers and architects. ย Qualified candidates will be founding members of a new Fraud Engineering team at Sidecar.

You will work with internal and external partners tackling fraud from soup to nutsโ€ฆ from helping to define and isolate the problem space to engineering next-generation solutions. Your goals are simple: help zero in on fraudulent activity before it happens and make a significant impact on the companyโ€™s bottom line.

Currently our backend API is written in PHP using the Codeigniter framework and other technologies like node.js. To support and expand we are transitioning to python and hiring more top-notch senior developers with server side expertise.

Our office is located in downtown San Francisco and is full of smart, hard-working people collaborating to bring ride-sharing to everyoneโ€ฆ and having a great time along the way!

Responsibilities

  • Strong engineering background coupled with experience around machine learning, pattern recognition, etc.

  • Code using primarily Python, Nodejs and PHP.

  • Work closely with other engineers on the team and build on each otherโ€™s ideas.

  • Participate in the design process and in code reviews.

  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.

  • Be proud of your work - what you do has a direct impact on our customersโ€™ experience.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge developing and debugging in PHP/Python.

  • Experience in the fraud space is a plus, but not required. Either way, you should be passionate about tackling the problem and the impact you can have on the company.

  • Passion for finding problems with software and helping ensure they never happen again.

  • Easily bored by monotony, would rather write a script to automate it.

  • BS / MS in Computer Science or related field.

Employment Type: Full-Time
