Entry Level Software Developer Part Time information

What is an entry level software developer part time?

An Entry Level Software Developer Part Time job is a role for individuals with little to no professional experience in software development, working fewer hours than a full-time position. These developers assist in coding, debugging, testing, and maintaining software applications under the guidance of senior team members. The position is ideal for students, recent graduates, or those looking to gain hands-on experience while balancing other commitments. Responsibilities may vary depending on the company but typically involve learning and contributing to programming tasks. It’s a great opportunity to develop technical skills and build a foundation for a full-time software development career.

What does an entry level software developer part time do?

As an Entry Level Software Developer working part time, your daily tasks may include writing and testing code, fixing bugs, participating in team meetings, and collaborating with senior developers on ongoing projects. You may also assist with documentation, code reviews, and occasionally research new technologies or tools as guided by your team. The workload is designed to be manageable within part-time hours, giving you opportunities to apply what you've learned and build valuable experience. This hands-on exposure allows you to gradually take on more complex tasks and develop your programming skills in a supportive environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the entry level software developer part time position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Software Developer Part Time, a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, basic algorithms, and familiarity with languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript is essential, typically demonstrated through a relevant degree or completed coursework. Experience with version control systems such as Git, code editors like VS Code, and foundational knowledge of databases are commonly required technical assets. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, effective communication, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team help candidates excel in this role. These skills and qualities are critical for tackling real-world coding challenges, adapting to feedback, and contributing positively to development projects.

About the Opportunity

About the Opportunity

The Software Engineering & Information Systems (SEIS) unit, within the College of Engineering, invites applications for the Adjunct Faculty position for teaching selected graduate courses for the multidisciplinary masters degree programs in Toronto, ON, Canada.

The SEIS unit seeks to produce more effective software engineers who are substantially more capable than ever of addressing the needs of digital society in terms of time, cost, and quality. The unit will accomplish this by revolutionizing the way software is designed and evolved overtime, and believe software is a systems engineering challenge rather than a coding problem. See website for details of programs:https://coe.northeastern.edu/academics-experiential-learning/academic-departments/ise/

Responsibilities:

Teach selected graduate courses within the multidisciplinary masters degree programs. See website for details of programs:https://coe.northeastern.edu/academics-experiential-learning/academic-departments/ise/

Responsibilities include preparation of lectures, course materials, examinations, and evaluation of student performance in the course.

The multidisciplinary masters suite of degree programs in Toronto include:

MS in Information Systems focuses on the intersection of cutting-edge technology and business complexity with an emphasis on the art and science of designing intricate software applications especially in the areas of healthcare, security and privacy, auditing and compliance, business improvement and intelligence, as well as financial accountability. Courses include application engineering and development, engineering big-data systems, and engineering secure software systems.

MS in Information Systems Bridge is focused for students with non-STEM, non-technical bachelor's degrees that are the knowledge link between business users and technologists by understanding the complexities of both. Students' undergraduate work in the humanities provides them with a unique perspective and approach in developing systems via a socio-technical lens. Students take courses specifically designed to bridge their current professional pursuits with the background and industry knowledge needed to advance in the IT sector. As industries launch into a digitized future, professionals with a clear understanding of how technology can be used to address large societal challenges are in demand.

Qualifications:

M.S. or Ph.D. in relevant engineering discipline is required; some professional and/or teaching experience preferred. Must have strong, effective verbal skills to communicate well with students.
