Job Summary
Battelle is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer (Early Career) to join our Advanced Materials & Energetics group. This position is 100% onsite, located in Columbus, OH.
The person selected for this position will be responsible for performing basic engineering analysis and executing structured technical assignments related to electrical and electronic systems. The position supports the research, design, development, and testing of electrical/electronic systems, components, equipment, and networks. The individual will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary technical team that may include engineers, materials scientists, and technicians.
Responsibilities
  • Analyzing equipment to establish operating data, conducting experimental tests, evaluating results, and selecting components based on specifications, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Contributes to the development and application of tools, simulations, and models for electric power systems to address challenges in system planning, operations, economics, resilience, and performance optimization.
  • Maintaining, testing and troubleshooting existing electrical/embedded systems as part of an integrated technical team.
  • Maintaining, testing and troubleshooting existing electrical/embedded systems independently with minimal oversight.
  • Working closely with Battelle engineers located in Columbus, OH to design, fabricate and integrate new electrical/embedded systems.
  • Generating and interpreting electrical schematics.
  • Generating and following installation and testing procedures
  • Build, prototype, and evaluate electronic hardware assemblies in laboratory environments.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; 0-2 years of experience or master's degree in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance
  • Physically fit to accomplish required tasking including working from ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and programmable power supplies.
  • Experience with computer languages/programs such as C, Python, Matlab, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Experience with hardware prototyping and development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional work experience in the electrical engineering field
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools and methods
  • Experience generating and interpreting engineering schematics
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including preparing, conducting, and documenting tests, soldering, and wiring
  • Signal processing experience, both software and hardware based
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools (Altium, Spice simulation tools, etc.) and methods (concept, design, build, test, lifecycle support)
  • Experience with communication interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB, etc.

Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $71,200-$101,400 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
