Job description

The incumbent will operate industrial sewing machines to sew fabric and materials for various products, ensuring high-quality standards and efficient production processes.

  • Check all safety devices, assuring they are in place and in working order prior to operating the machine.
  • Prior to sewing, may inspect and repair any operations incorrectly done, including unacceptable stitches on materials provided to you. 
  • Thread machine and change bobbin as needed based on capability.
  • Operate various automatic machines which may include:
    • One-Step Automatic Machines (labels, flushing, snaps, grommets, bag sealing)
    • Bartack operations (with jigs)
    • Serger operations (with jigs)
    • Single needle operations (with jigs)
  • Operate and maintain industrial sewing machines to stitch fabric, leather, and other materials according to specifications.
  • May inspect finished products for defects, ensuring they meet quality control standards.
  • Follow work orders and instructions for specific sewing projects, ensuring accuracy and precision in stitching.
  • May troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform basic maintenance to keep machines running smoothly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the proper handling and storage of materials and tools.
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with other team members and supervisors to meet production goals.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and company policies while operating machinery.
  • Keep accurate records of production progress, materials used, and any issues encountered during the sewing process.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating industrial sewing machines (preferred).
  • Knowledge of various sewing machine types (e.g., straight stitch, overlock, serger) and their functions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and sit for extended periods of time.
