The International Mission Board is seeking a Travel Agent to orchestrate International & AssignmentBased travel for our teams. Join us in Rockville, VA, and help our staff move swiftly and safely wherever mission calls.

Location: Rockville, VA

Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid after training period

Compensation: Commensurate experience

The Travel Agent - International & AssignmentBased Travel provides handson travel coordination for individuals and families during key assignment and life transitions. This role supports international, medical, educationrelated, and emergency travel that often involves long timelines, family dynamics, and sensitive circumstances. The coordinator serves as a primary point of contact from initial planning through ticketing and followup, offering accurate, policyaligned guidance with a high level of care, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

Assignment & Transition Travel

  • Coordinate endtoend international travel for individuals and families traveling to, from, or between assignments.
  • Manage complex travel cases from intake through ticketing, changes, and followup.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately about itinerary options, tradeoffs, and timing.

Medical & Emergency Travel

  • Coordinate urgent, medical, or shortnotice travel calmly and accurately.
  • Remain responsive and detailoriented during timesensitive or highstress situations.

Youth & Family Transition Travel

  • Coordinate travel for teenagers and young adults connected to assignmentbased families.
  • Support travel for:
    • Boarding school attendance or transitions
    • Travel between college and parents serving internationally
  • Communicate clearly with young travelers and parents to ensure safe, smooth execution.

Booking & Systems

  • Book and manage travel using approved tools and processes, including Concur and Sabre as applicable.
  • Assist travelers with booking questions and travel policy guidance.
  • Partner effectively with travel agents to ensure accurate and timely ticketing.

Knowledge & Improvement

  • Maintain working knowledge of airline pricing, fare rules, international routings, documentation, and travel restrictions.
  • Stay informed on global travel conditions that impact international and longterm travel.
  • Contribute to process improvements and standard workflows related to assignmentbased travel

Requirements:

  • Associate degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of travel coordination experience, preferably involving international or complex itineraries
  • Experience supporting longterm or casebased travel (humanitarian, nonprofit, or assignmentbased travel strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with Concur, Sabre, or similar travel systems
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and followthrough
  • Ability to manage changing priorities without sacrificing accuracy or care
  • Calm, thoughtful decisionmaking under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of world geography and international travel patterns
  • Awareness of geopolitical conditions and how global events can affect travel planning, routing, and traveler readiness
  • Sensitivity to cultural and organizational values when supporting individuals and families
