Job description

Job Summary

The Wire Harness Assembly Worker is responsible for the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and inspection of custom wire harnesses and cable assemblies built to exact customer specifications and regulatory standards. This role operates within a quality-first manufacturing environment where precision, repeatability, and compliance with AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 requirements are non-negotiable. The ideal candidate takes personal ownership of workmanship quality, follows documented work instructions without deviation, and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement.

General Accountabilities

  • Assemble wire harnesses and cable assemblies from engineering drawings, bills of materials, and written work instructions, ensuring all dimensions, routing, and termination points match specifications exactly.
  • Perform wire cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and connector insertion using both hand tools and automated, high-speed cutting, stripping, and crimping equipment to improve process repeatability and overall product quality.
  • Conduct in-process and final visual inspections of completed assemblies, applying IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards to identify and disposition any nonconforming product.
  • Complete all required traveler documentation, work order records, and quality inspection forms accurately and in compliance with AS9100D traceability requirements.
  • Identify and promptly report defects, out-of-tolerance conditions, or process anomalies to the production lead or quality team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD-safe workstation consistent with 5S and RoHS compliance expectations.
  • Participate in cross-training on adjacent assembly processes including overmolded cables and basic electromechanical assemblies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by surfacing process inefficiencies and suggesting corrective actions.
  • Handle all materials, connectors, and finished assemblies with care to prevent damage or contamination, particularly for aerospace and medical applications with zero-defect expectations.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on wire harness, cable assembly, or related electromechanical assembly experience preferred. Entry-level candidates with demonstrated mechanical aptitude will be considered.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (any class) is a plus and may be required within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly drawings.
  • Experience working in an AS9100D, ISO 9001, or similar quality management system environment is strongly preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. Some customer programs may require U.S. citizenship or the ability to pass a government background check given the company's aerospace and military customer base.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform fine motor tasks with sustained accuracy throughout a full shift.
  • Reliable attendance and a consistent track record of meeting production commitments.

Skills

  • Proficiency with hand tools used in wire harness assembly: crimpers, wire strippers, heat guns, torque drivers, and continuity testers.
  • Working knowledge of connector types commonly used in aerospace and industrial applications (e.g., Deutsch, Molex, Amphenol, and D-sub series).
  • Ability to perform quality soldering to J-STD-001 standards is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect dimensional and cosmetic nonconformances at the individual wire and termination level.
  • Basic reading comprehension sufficient to follow detailed written work instructions, safety procedures, and quality checklists.
  • Familiarity with ESD (electrostatic discharge) handling practices and RoHS-compliant material awareness.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage personal production pace to meet daily output targets.
  • Team-oriented communication skills: able to clearly flag problems, ask clarifying questions, and support coworkers in a small-team production environment.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic work order entry or quality record completion are a plus.
