Details

The Cardiovascular Device Nurse will complete device evaluations per protocol to assure normal device function and safe programmed settings.  Cardiac devices included but not limited to are:  Pacemakers, internal and external defibrillators, loop recorders, and implanted cardiac monitors for congestive heart failure.  This will include device interrogations completed in the inpatient, procedural, and outpatient settings as well as remotely monitored patients.  The Cardiovascular Device Nurse will complete initial interrogations and troubleshoot when required, report generation, charges, and documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Device Management Systems as well as bring acute/urgent issues to the attention of providers.  The RN will function as a liaison between the device patients and providers.  The RN will provide patient education and keep accurate records.  The nurse collaborates closely with other members of the care team as well as other allied health staff and providers external to the department.  This position requires constant learning of new devices and attending periodic educational classes.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Able to assess interrogation/testing results and make independent decisions regarding follow up schedule and pacemaker settings when appropriate.
  • Reports all device and rhythm abnormalities to physicians.
  • Collaborates with physician and/or Advance Practice Providers regarding the device status as it affects the total treatment plan.
  • Educates patients and provides follow-up reminders on device checks according to established protocols.
  • Assists with maintaining device data base.
  • Compose reports and task to physicians or Advance Practice Provider for review in EHR.
  • Schedules appointments for device patients and corresponds with patients regarding any missed appointments or other matters.
  • Demonstrates positive and competent customer service through effective patient education and care.
  • Submit charges for billing.
  • Inspect implant site and document healing process.
  • Triage patients over the telephone, remotely, and in office.
  • Complies with FSA guidelines and regulations regarding device advisories and recalls.

Qualifications:

  • BSN preferred.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Current Indiana RN license required.
  • Knowledge of cardiac rhythms required.
  • 3 years RN experience in Cardiovascular Nursing required.  The following RN cardiology experience that qualifies will include:  EP Lab/Cath Lab, ICU, Progressive Care/Telemetry experience.
  • Experience in EP and cardiovascular implantable devices is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong ECG skills, a desire to learn advanced cardiac rhythms, and have a high level of comfort with technology.
  • The RN should be able to function independently and desire a position that requires a constant learning curve.
  • Effective communicator and excellent critical thinking skills.
