Job Description
The Application Engineer I supports the Concepting & Estimating (CAE) team by developing solution concepts, generating cost estimates, and preparing proposal content in support of the sales process.
This role operates at the intersection of sales and engineering - balancing cost competitiveness with technical accuracy. Success requires the ability to assess material and engineering effort, define solution approaches, and deliver high-quality proposals on tight timelines.
This is a fast-paced, learning-focused, entry-level position designed for recent graduates or early-career engineers. The role emphasizes speed, critical thinking, and continuous learning over perfection, with a strong expectation to develop judgment around risk, cost accuracy, and proposal clarity.
In this role, you will report to our Sr Application Engineering Supervisor and work out of our Cincinnati, OH location on a hybrid basis. Note: for the first 90 days, new hires must be prepared to work onsite 100% M-F.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support development of solution concepts and cost estimates for material handling and automation systems
  • Prepare proposal content including scope definitions, clarifications, and exceptions
  • Evaluate engineering and material costs to support competitive and accurate bids
  • Balance speed and accuracy to meet proposal deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Collaborate with sales, account managers, and project engineering teams to align solutions with customer needs
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and, when needed, external customers
  • Identify risks and incorporate appropriate assumptions or buffers within estimates
  • Continuously improve technical knowledge and estimating capability through self-guided learning and team mentorship

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related STEM discipline
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
