Billing Specialist - per diem
Faith Hospice is seeking a per diem, detail-oriented Billing Specialist with experience in medical coding as well as current certification to join our team of professionals. This role is essential to ensuring accurate clinical documentation, compliant billing practices, and timely reimbursement.
What will you do:
  • Review clinical documentation for palliative care services and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and payer-specific coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to clarify documentations and resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding rules, including but not limited to time-based and medical decision making-basted billing.
  • Conduct internal audits of coded encounters to support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Assist with claim billing, denials, appeals, and payer inquiries to correct denied claims.
  • Protect confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Work can be remote with the ability to come into the Faith Hospice Corporate Office in Byron Center, Michigan when needed.
Qualified candidates:
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent coding certification.
  • 1-3 years of medical coding experience, preferably in palliative care, hospice, geriatrics, or internal medicine is preferred.
    • Experience with Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding
  • Knowledge of palliative care documentation standards (e.g., symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning) is preferred.
  • Experience working with EHR systems and coding/billing software is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Medicare and commercial payer regulations for palliative care.
