Job Title: Technical Business Analyst

Location: Remote in the DC / MD / VA area

Type: Contract / 1099

Compensation: $50/hr-$60/hr, subject to experience

We are seeking a Technical Business Analyst to support a long-term client project. This is a 1099/contractor role for someone who is highly client-oriented, technically fluent, and skilled at deeply learning a client’s business domain, systems, and operating environment.

The ideal candidate is not just a requirements gatherer. They are someone who can build trusted relationships, understand complex stakeholder needs, translate business objectives into actionable technical requirements, and help bridge the gap between client leadership, program teams, and a small internal engineering team.

This role is fully remote, but candidates should be located in or near the DMV area, as occasional onsite meetings may be required approximately once or twice per quarter.

Responsibilities
  • Partner directly with client stakeholders, program leaders, and internal technical teams to understand business needs, workflows, priorities, and constraints.

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the client’s domain, systems, stakeholder landscape, and long-term application goals.

  • Lead discovery conversations with business and technical stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and document requirements.

  • Translate complex business needs into clear, actionable requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and supporting documentation.

  • Serve as a bridge between senior developers and client-side business stakeholders, ensuring shared understanding across both groups.

  • Support systems integration efforts across internal applications, external partner platforms, and related enterprise systems.

  • Ask thoughtful, probing questions to uncover business context, edge cases, dependencies, and risks.

  • Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships based on trust, curiosity, responsiveness, and accountability.

  • Help prioritize requirements and clarify tradeoffs in collaboration with client leadership and the delivery team.

  • Participate in remote meetings and occasional onsite client sessions.

  • Contribute to the continued improvement of application documentation, stakeholder communication, and delivery processes.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Meaningful experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Systems Analyst, or similar role.

  • Demonstrated experience working directly with external clients or business stakeholders in a consultative capacity.

  • Proven ability to learn complex business domains and become deeply familiar with client requirements, terminology, workflows, and priorities.

  • Strong requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Comfortable engaging with senior leadership and extracting meaningful information from high-level or ambiguous conversations.

  • Ability to work effectively with senior software developers and translate between business and technical perspectives.

  • Experience supporting custom application development, modernization, or systems integration projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong curiosity, patience, and willingness to invest time in understanding the client’s environment.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while remaining highly collaborative and responsive.

  • Located in or near the DMV area and available for occasional onsite meetings.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience supporting applications that integrate with third-party providers, partner systems, APIs, or enterprise platforms.

  • Background working with long-term client accounts or embedded delivery teams.

  • Familiarity with Agile delivery practices, user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.

  • Experience documenting workflows, business rules, data flows, integration requirements, and operational processes.

  • Prior experience on application modernization projects or migrations from legacy to modern technology stacks.

Subject to experience.
