Position: Liability Claims Adjuster

Pay: $ 60,000+ 

Location: Corporate Office, SLC UT 

Schedule: M- F 7AM - 4PM; 8AM - 5PM 

Position Overview

The Liability Claims Adjuster reviews assigned claims, conducts investigations to determine company liability, evaluates exposure, sets and adjusts reserves, reviews repair estimates, and negotiates settlements in accordance with company practices and applicable legal requirements.

This role is designed for an experienced adjuster who enjoys working claims from investigation through resolution, communicating directly with claimants, insurance providers, attorneys, vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders, and using independent judgment to resolve matters efficiently and fairly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review assigned claims and conduct investigations to gather facts needed to determine company liability.
  • Review repair estimates submitted by claimants for accuracy and relationship to the reported accident facts.
  • Send estimates for third party review as appropriate.
  • Evaluate claim exposure and establish or adjust reserves as needed.
  • Use critical thinking and sound judgment to resolve complex issues throughout the claim process.
  • Negotiate and settle claims with claimants and attorneys on behalf of the company.
  • Maintain claim systems and workflows to ensure files are handled in a timely and organized manner.
  • Review aged claims and close files when appropriate.
  • Apply applicable rights of recovery, statutes of limitation, and jurisdiction specific claim considerations to obtain the best practical outcome for the company.
  • Research and collect photographs, invoices, estimates, and other accident related documentation.
  • Follow Medicare compliance requirements to ensure bodily injury claims are settled appropriately.
  • Handle multiple claimants, vendors, attorneys, and internal customers professionally.
  • Manage urgent situations, competing priorities, and conflict in a calm and effective manner.

Qualifications

  • Prior property and casualty claims experience with a consistently high level of performance.
  • Liability claims experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong documentation habits.
  • Professional communication style when working with claimants, attorneys, insurance companies, governmental agencies, management, and team members.
  • Ability to remain effective in a fast paced environment and handle stressful situations appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and general computer based claim handling.

Preferred Experience

  • Commercial auto liability, transportation, trucking, logistics, or maintenance related claim experience.
  • Bodily injury and property damage claim handling experience.
  • Knowledge of industry claim handling standards, Medicare requirements, and applicable state insurance rules and regulations.
  • Experience with RM Client, BMI, AS400, TMT, TMS, or similar transportation and claim systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in a business related field or commensurate work related experience.
