Colanar, an Addtronics company, specializes in advanced liquid filling systems and automated handling systems for the Life Sciences industries, including Pharma and Biotech applications, Contract Manufacturing, and Compound Pharmacies. We service a global customer base.

Position Summary:

Colanar is seeking an entry-level Field Service Technician to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge automation and robotic systems, both in our manufacturing facility and at customer sites throughout North America. The Field Service Technician will play a critical role in the assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade of automated equipment.

This position is ideal for a hands-on individual with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude who enjoys problem-solving, travel, and working directly with customers. The successful candidate will support equipment build and assembly activities, perform field service work, assist with system commissioning, and help optimize equipment performance throughout its lifecycle.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer facilities to perform equipment installations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and system upgrades.

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical issues involving power distribution, wiring, sensors, controls, and automation systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues, including alignment problems, component failures, and operational performance concerns.

  • Assemble, repair, and rebuild automation equipment in a controlled manufacturing environment to ensure reliability and quality.

  • Execute maintenance programs designed to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Perform equipment testing, calibration, adjustments, and verification procedures to ensure optimal performance.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, service, and customer teams to resolve technical challenges and implement improvements.

  • Provide customers with technical support and training related to equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and overall system functionality.

  • Maintain detailed service records, work orders, punch lists, inventory usage, and customer communications.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Associate degree, technical certification, trade school training, or equivalent hands-on experience in a related field.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.

  • Familiarity with industrial automation, robotics, controls systems, or manufacturing equipment is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.

Nonessential Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience working with industrial automation, robotics, packaging equipment, labeling systems, or custom machinery.

  • Basic knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, VFDs, and industrial control systems.

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and assembly prints.

  • Exposure to machine commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

  • Customer-facing experience, including technical support, training, or service-related roles.

  • Exposure to continuous improvement or lean manufacturing principles

  • Work Environment: This position primarily operates within a controlled cleanroom and light manufacturing environment supporting Life Sciences and pharmaceutical-related products. Employees are required to follow strict gowning, cleanliness, contamination-control, and documentation procedures to maintain compliance and product integrity. Work may involve exposure to cleaning agents and production materials. Noise levels may range from low to moderate depending on production activity. Safe work practices and adherence to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, cleanroom standards, and customer-specific requirements are expected at all times.

Position Classification 

This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Depending on the needs of the business, the ability to work more than 40 hours/week and/or weekends may be required. Overtime will not be paid for hours worked over 40 hours/week.

Travel 

Travel is a regular part of this role and may include overnight trips to customer locations throughout the United States and Canada.
