Job description

We are looking for a skilled Buyer to join our team in Santa Maria, CA. This is an on-site position based in Santa Maria, CA. We value teamwork, inclusivity, and continuous professional development, and we offer competitive benefits along with opportunities for growth.

JOB SUMMARY

The Buyer is responsible for acquiring goods and services at a competitive price, with on-time delivery and top quality via issuance of a purchase order. The Buyer will assist more senior buyers and perform a range of activities associated with purchasing goods, materials, suppliers, and services based on established quality standards, availability requirements and price constraints.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES - Essential Functions (Other duties and projects may be assigned or requested.)

  • Make daily purchases within allotted programs based on requisitions and analyze the quality, specifications and delivery requirements
  • Send out quotations for bid on non-contracted items and negotiates best price
  • Enter purchase orders into system and issue to supplier via fax or e-mail
  • Review purchase orders on a weekly basis via reporting system and follows up on past due items plus requirements due in coming weeks
  • Highlight any problem areas and reports to the Purchasing Supervisor
  • Interact with Planning and Production to ensure any changes in production requirements are flowed down to suppliers
  • Generate effective communication, good relationships, and a positive image with suppliers and co-workers promoting courtesy, objectivity and fairness
  • Liaise with planners to control scheduling of parts to ensure stock levels meet demands while staying within stock level buffers
  • Review Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) written against suppliers and relay such information to them and coordinate corrective action
  • Update suppliers with engineering changes and drawings
  • Review supplier performance
  • Locate new suppliers (if necessary)
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and legal work environment, adhering to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company’s information and products.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Knowledge, and Experience

Education:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is desired.

Experience:

  • Position may be filled with both entry level and experienced candidates.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Other:

  • Extended or irregular hours may be required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

    Salary Range Transparency: $82,000 - $103,000 annually
