Client: Heavy Machine Manufacturing Industry
Duration: 1 year with possibilities of an extension
Location: Morrisville, NC 27560
Shift: 1st shift - Monday-Friday

Description:
Entry-level position into the safety profession. Understanding of principles and independent use of knowledge to comply with regulatory agency and company standards for injury and illness reporting.
Duties:
  • Works with employees, assists supervisors in injury prevention.
  • Identifies and corrects safety hazards and unsafe actions.
  • Develops safety processes/programs for a hazard-free workplace.
  • Conducts audits for compliance, reports corrective actions.
  • Conducts safety presentations and training.
  • Analyzes EHS metrics for improvement opportunities.
  • Reviews new products, equipment, processes, and facilities.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations and company standards.
  • Works with safety equipment suppliers.

Position Title: Safety Professional
Specific Position Requirements:
The Safety Professional will develop and implement safety policies, ensure compliance, and promote a safety culture.
Safety Metrics and Reporting:
  • OSHA metrics report.
  • Monthly Safety Data input into Enterprise JDEHS database.

Incident and Injury Management:
  • Support worker's comp claims.
  • Review and investigate injuries and near misses.

Safety Documentation and Compliance:
  • Review emergency and safety documentation.
  • Maintain and implement JDHS programs, updates, and audits.
  • Review OSHA and Life Safety 101 policies.
  • Maintain correct signage and markings.
  • Submit/store documents per Retention Schedule.

Training and Certification:
  • PPE approval and certification.

  • SOP creation for major equipment (LOTO, Confined Space, 70e electrical, Lithium-Ion battery safety).
  • New Employee Safety (NES) Orientation.
  • Ongoing employee awareness training.

Audits and Inspections:
  • Quarterly SEAMS audits.
  • Yearly Enterprise audit.
  • New equipment review, RED tag, PPE standards.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:
  • Schedule fire department drills.
  • Manage Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Conduct yearly safety events and drills (Fire/Tornado/Earthquake/Severe Weather).
  • Update employee-facing Emergency Procedures ("Red Book").
  • Test and use emergency communication methods (EverBridge, Email, PA system, Radio).

Coordination and Liaison:
  • Work with DG Coordinator/Hazmat contact.
  • Liaison between Corporate EH&S for new procedures.
  • Address non-compliance in lab inspections (fire, sprinklers, backflow testing).
  • Support contractors (JDHS 18, Avetta POC).
  • Act as POC for OSHA, Homeland Security, Police, Fire, Food Safety, IDNR, EPA.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Coordinator.
  • Ergonomics Administrator.
  • Schedule First Aid and CPR training.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a safety-related role.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
