Job description

Momar is looking for a Quality Control & Analytical Chemist!

Momar, Inc., a privately owned specialty chemical manufacturing company based in Atlanta, GA, is currently seeking a full-time, entry-level Quality Control & Analytical Chemist to join our Momar family. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Quality Control & Analytical Chemist is responsible for performing testing on raw materials, finished goods, and industrial water samples. This position involves wet chemistry (titrations), instrumentation (AA, UV-Vis, etc.), sample preparation, quality control testing, analytical water testing, and an understanding of general laboratory practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager to ensure compliance with cGMP and GLP standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct analyses according to SOPs to achieve accurate, precise, and reproducible quantitative measurements.
  • Support technical and production teams by maintaining equipment, preparing reagents, monitoring personal bench inventory, and assisting in waste treatment and disposal
  • Coordinate with vendors as necessary for raw materials approvals and discrepancies.
  • Promptly analyze all received samples.
  • Aid in identifying opportunities for process improvement and actively participate in process improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Sales Members in the field on specialized projects and sales/training opportunities as needed.
  • Communicate testing results to the appropriate Technical Directors and/or Sales Team via phone and email correspondence.
  • Document data, report results, perform equipment verification and calibration, and conduct laboratory cleaning in accordance with Momar SOPs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as computer proficiency, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must have strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Must be able to make color assessments for red, pink, blue, purple, yellow, and orange indicators for titration determination.
  • Must have general knowledge of analytical techniques and equipment.
  • Must have general knowledge of safe chemical handling methods.
  • Must have a strong grasp of basic algebra and general laboratory skills (pipetting, weighing, dilutions, etc.).
  • Demonstrates a strong, task-oriented work ethic and results-driven prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of a BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related STEM major.
  • 1 year of independent lab research or industrial experience (Strongly preferred).
  • First Aid Certification (Preferred, but not required)
  • Respirator Certification will be required upon hire. This certification is provided by the company. Individuals needing active respirator certification must remain clean-shaven on the neck area at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds unassisted and is required to push/pull heavy materials to complete assignments.
  • Requires the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to perform job tasks in sometimes dusty, hot, and/or cold working conditions.

Frequently required to stand for extended periods of time, sit, use hands and fingers to handle/feel items, reach with hands and arms, stoop, bend, and talk or hear.
