Job description

Quality Assurance Supervisor

As the Quality Supervisor, you will be responsible for quality assurance aspects of the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure that processes and procedures follow customer, regulatory, and corporate requirements. The Quality Assurance Supervisor provides leadership and expertise in quality assurance processes and tools. You will directly supervise hourly employees in a manufacturing environment, be responsible for training and development, performance review, audit/regulatory compliance, and execution/oversight of quality related tasks and documentation on the floor.
Responsibilities
  • Manage Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure alignment with corporate, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Hire, train and develop qualified staff to ensure effective execution of quality assurance tasks and attainment of operational and development goals
  • Responsible for corrective action of direct reports by counseling, disciplining, planning, monitoring and appraising work performance.
  • Drive achievement of site vision and goals/objectives
  • Completion of corrective action reports and utilization of sound root cause analysis tools
  • Analyze and report quality measures, performance trends, and improvements to site staff and management team
  • Monitor and review information entered into electronic data collection systems
  • Manage the quality/food safety hold/release program by placing non-conforming product on hold, completing pre-shipment documentation, and managing the inventory of non-conforming product
  • Write and update plant standard operating procedures, forms, and quality programs as needed
  • Manage, update, and ensure compliance to HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and other quality related programs
  • Ensure compliance with GFSI audit standards and support quality manager on all third party and customer audits
  • Complete facility inspections and internal audits
  • Ensure QA tasks such as sample collection, swabs, product compliance measurements, sensory and chemical testing, etc. are completed and assist with sampling when needed
  • Prepare samples for laboratory testing or customer requested as needed
  • Provide quality assurance support during the introduction of new products to the facility
  • Act as a facility liaison to the USDA
  • Temporarily assumes the duties of the Quality Assurance Senior Supervisor in their absence as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, biology, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a food processing facility with quality and/or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels are essential; bilingual (Spanish-English) a plus.
  • Strong math, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to work in electronic data collection and traceability systems
  • Demonstrated leadership, people development, and coaching
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with various departments to deliver on quality commitments
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively manage time and deliver results on time
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in USDA and GFSI audit requirements and guidelines preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Must be able to lift 50lb and must have knowledge of computers and be proficient in word and Excel.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, couch, or crawl, talk or hear as defined below.
  • Standard of 8 hours shifts and longer as the company requires
  • Work environment does vary in temperature. Ability to work in hot and cold conditions.
  • Standing and/or walking throughout the shift
  • Lifting /Carrying a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Use both hands, as necessary
