Job description

Tri-City Groundbreakers, Inc. is a family-owned, fast-growing excavating and heavy civil contractor proudly serving projects across the entire state of Michigan, with a strong focus on the Detroit metro area and surrounding regions. We're seeking an experienced Estimator/Project Manager ready to play a key role in our continued expansion and success.


What You'll Do:

  • Build strong, lasting relationships with clients, owners, and vendors to drive competitive bidding and unlock negotiated project opportunities.
  • Prepare accurate, competitive estimates for a diverse range of heavy civil, excavation, and underground utility projects.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously-organize documents, track deadlines, attend pre-bid meetings, pre-qualification sessions, bid openings, and post-bid follow-ups.
  • Transition awarded projects smoothly to the field team: collaborate with superintendents and foremen to control costs, maintain scope, and protect/produce targeted margins.
  • Monitor job performance through unit-based cost tracking and ensure projects deliver expected profitability.


What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent hands-on experience in heavy civil construction and excavation (required).
  • Strong background in reading and interpreting civil plans, specifications, and engineering details.
  • Working knowledge ofMunicipal and MDOT bidding processes, requirements, and expectations.
  • Proficiency in producing and analyzing unit-based job cost reports and line-item budgets.
  • Experience developing project schedules in Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
  • Advanced skills in estimating/takeoff software: HCSS HeavyBid, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Carlson Takeoff, AGTEK, or similar.
  • Solid command of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Bonus: Accounting or business management experience.
  • High integrity, strong work ethic, excellent communication, and proven problem-solving ability.
