The Prince George's County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Accountant 2G, grade G21 position, in the Accounting Division. About the Position This is full performance level professional accounting work, performed under the general supervision of a higher-level accountant or other designated official in accordance with established departmental policies, rules, and regulations. Duties include but are not limited to the following: About the Agency The Prince George's County Department of Social Services is in the business of providing opportunities for residents of the County to become independent, responsible and stable members of the community.

We do this by providing intervention services that strengthen families, protect children and vulnerable adults, encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. We assist our customers through such programs as Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Supplement Program, Medical Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Foster Care and Adoption Service. Examples of Work Performs the full range of accounting activities.

Provides supervision to lower-level account clerks and account technicians personnel. Determines methods and procedures for entering data into an automated financial accounting system. Completes periodic review and preparatory actions to ensure that all documents requiring posting are accomplished prepares analyses of statements and reports to make recommendations regarding analysis.

Reviews monthly trial balances. Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Provides training to lower-level accounting personnel.

Maintains general ledger files. Assists supervisor in the preparation of the budget, financial reports, or other reporting requirements within the division assigned. Verifies legality and fund availability for all appropriations and cash transfers.

Researches and prepares reports on individual projects showing amount authorized, funding receipts, payments and encumbrances. Prepares financial or other analytical statements. Audits records on a periodic basis and prepares a report.

Cooperates with and assists the various auditors in conducting audits. Serves as liaison between County and other agencies in connection with contracts, insurance programs, etc. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting, Finance, Quantitative Analyses, or Business Administration or a related field.

One (1) year of professional accounting experience. An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
