Job Summary
Battelle's Defense and Material Solutions Business Unit is currently seeking an Entry level Analog Electric Power Engineer with a Power Emphasis. This position is located at Columbus, OH.
The person selected for this position will assist in the design, development, test, and production of complex electronic and electromechanical systems. The ability to learn to troubleshoot and debug existing systems is also required. The person filling this position will be expected to function as part of a technical team which may be composed of engineers, technicians, and support staff. This person will assist in performing assignments such as designing electrical schematics, compiling and evaluating design and test data, and preparing technical specifications.
Conducts basic engineering analysis of data collected. Performs structured work assignments. Assignments may involve research for device and technology development; the design, build and integration of hardware and software components for computing systems and networks; and development of specifications for assigned system components.
Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments of a routine degree of complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for computing systems, components, equipment, and networks.
  • Design, fabricate, and integrate electronic systems as part of an integrated technical team
  • Test and troubleshoot electronic systems
  • Generate and interpret electrical schematics
  • Reverse-engineer electronic systems
  • Interpret, compile and analyze data collected and write various technical reports
  • Complete assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints
  • Build relationships with internal clients
  • Contribute to Independent Research and Development (IR&D) studies
  • Travel when required by project tasks
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited electrical/computer engineering program with course work and/or experience in power electronics
  • Sole US Citizenship and willing and able to obtain and maintain a government TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly
  • Physically fit to accomplish required tasking including working from ladders and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude, good character, and eagerness to take on technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving ability and commitment to quality results under schedule deadlines
  • Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn
  • Working knowledge of designing for EMI and noise reduction techniques, proper grounding, and analog sensor data acquisition and analysis
  • Working knowledge in the areas of sensor signal conditioning, control systems, power supplies, magnetics, electric motors, motor controllers, power conditioning and distribution systems, thermal management, wire harnesses and cabling
  • Demonstrated experience with modeling and simulation tools, schematic capture, board layout and PC-based analysis tools
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
  • Experience with computer languages/programs such as C, MATLAB, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Comfortable working with AC and DC voltages up to 500V
  • Travel when required by project tasks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current security clearance.
  • Additional work experience in the electrical engineering field
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools (Altium, Spice simulation tools, etc.) and methods (concept, design, build, test, lifecycle support)
  • Experience with embedded systems design and troubleshooting
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including preparing, conducting, and documenting tests, soldering, and wiring
  • Experience with underwater systems - sonar, propulsion, etc.
  • Experience with programming in additional languages
  • Experience with power electronics and high frequency switching converters
  • Experience with 3PH power systems
  • Experience with PMSMs and motor controllers
  • Master's degree in power electronics and power systems
