Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Social Scientist - Entry Level. This position is an early career opportunity located in Columbus, OH or in the Washington D.C. area.
The successful applicant will work as a Social Science Research Associate at Battelle supporting on-going health outcomes work in the areas of healthcare quality improvement and health policy. Performs social science research tasks, applying standard and established theories, concepts, and techniques. The Research Associate is responsible for contributing to literature reviews, environmental scans, data collection and support of stakeholder and client engagement. The Research Associate will also have primary responsibility for ensuring the quality and organization of all data collection activities to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Support stakeholder engaged activities including focus groups, committee meetings, and technical expert panels
  • Develop reports related to internal and external meetings with clients
  • Conduct testing of and provide feedback regarding data collection systems
  • Organize and maintain data and materials related to complex public health and healthcare quality tasks
  • Contribute to literature reviews (e.g., review articles and documents, abstract information, summarize findings)
  • Contribute to the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts, white papers and government proposals
  • Conduct qualitative analysis
  • Achieve high technical quality in project activities
  • Perform job duties with discretion and professionalism
  • Treat as highly confidential, all data and information collected as part of day-to-day research operations

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent communication (verbal and writing) skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks across a variety of projects and interact effectively with staff across Battelle and client organizations
  • Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience writing technical reports related to health outcomes
  • Experience performing data collection activities (e.g., focus groups, interviews, copy tests, or other survey research)
  • Experience with various methods of data collection from human subjects, including focus groups, key informant interviews, cognitive interviews, and survey data collection
  • Experience conducting literature reviews
  • Experience ensuring high-quality, on-time deliverables in a fast-based environment
  • Experience demonstrating reliability and a conscientious work ethic

Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
