Job Description

The Park Ranger enforces park regulations and policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable visitor experience; provides information to visitors about the parkโ€™s recreational resources, cultural and natural history of Lynches River County Park.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols the park to enforce rules and regulations, and to safeguard and preserve park facilities.
  • Performs custodial and housekeeping activities of all park facilities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness, and safety of the park to meet and exceed established standards.
  • Performs regular park walk-throughs with Park Ranger Supervisor to identify areas needing maintenance or repair.
  • Prepares rental facilities for all events; check-in customers and overnight guests; remains on property to attend to customer needs; secures buildings and park upon completion of events.
  • Collects fees, makes change; completes all related documentation; reconciles and secures funds.
  • Ability to operate a variety of small and large engine equipment: various hand and power tools, tractor, backhoe, and other similar equipment.
  • Evaluates the need for equipment, supplies and materials; reports findings to Parks Superintendent.
  • Exercises appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information; analyzes and projects consequences of decisions and/or recommendations.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Assists in planning and scheduling the parkโ€™s maintenance program.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

  • Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, and one year general maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices involved in protecting and maintaining park natural areas and/or natural resource management is desired.
  • Basic knowledge of canoeing/kayaking is desired.
  • Must possess a valid S.C. driverโ€™s license.
  • Must possess, or able to successfully complete, First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
